AIR: WHY WE SHOULD CARE

Posted by Nabi White on 03/03/2021

Imagine your typical Saturday afternoon relaxing on the couch. The cat has its eye on that warm spot the sunbeam is making as it peeks through the curtain. What catches YOUR eye are the little flecks and specs you can see in the light beam, and that’s when you realize; you breathe those in, and that’s just what you can see. We all know to wipe down surfaces, but within indoor environments are a whole host of issues who will never touch a shelf or a table top…never.

To put the problem info perspective, imagine a single mold spore taking 4.7 hours to fall to the ground in perfectly still air. Now imagine that same spore in moving air caused by simply opening the front door, or walking across your floor, or opening and closing the refrigerator, or by settling into the couch, or getting in and out of bed. Most home air conditioning units have filters with a MERV rating of 8, which is fine for large stuff like cat hair and large dust particles, but it’s those fine ones—the ones you can’t see with the naked eye, the ones that are constantly adrift in the open air currents…those are the one’s that lodge deep in our lungs, can get into the blood stream, and cause long-term health effects.

Thankfully, there are ways to take control of your environment, such as PM2.5 meters that are becoming more affordable for the home market, and can inform you if there are worsening air quality issues, or for an all-in-one solution, the supplemental filtration delivered by FILTR not only gives you Pharmaceutical Cleanroom-grade air, but allows for an optional onboard PM2.5 sensor to detect problems within your home in real time. Now knowing the empty space in our homes isn’t quite so empty–and in fact can be downright harmful, wouldn’t it make sense to detect and prevent airborne issue in the place we spend most of our time?
